74 year old male states he was grating cheese when he accidentally grated a piece of skin from his right long finger. Patient went to the ER, started a course of antibiotics. Few days later, the patient developed an infection . Patient wound care included dressing of the wound as well as a mallet finger splint that needed to be worn for 6-12 weeks. Once all open wounds were healed and mallet finger straightened up, patient was sent to hand therapy. *** Mallet Finger: Is an injury to the thin tendon that straightens the end joint of a finger or thumb.
