Fat removal surgery, such as liposuction by board-certified cosmetic surgeons, has been around for many years. However, modern engineering has allowed innovative, non-surgical fat removal techniques to gain notoriety. Dr. Mountcastle, double board certified plastic surgeon, is proud to offer Cryolipolysis, also known as “CoolSculpting," at his practices in Ashburn and Reston, VA. It is a nonsurgical procedure that targets, freezes and eliminates fat cells under the skin using a cooling process. Once the fat cells are frozen (crystallized), they are eliminated from the body naturally. CoolSculpting helps solve those troublesome love handles, belly pooches, and other problematic areas of fat.
Am I a Candidate?
Like traditional liposuction, Coolsculpting™ is not intended as a weight loss procedure. If you are considering shaping your body with CoolSculpting® technology, you should follow a healthy diet, be in overall good health, and have stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to regular exercise. Coolsculpting™ is particularly effective at treating patients with bulges in the abdomen, flanks, arms and back.
Because Coolsculpting™ is completely non-invasive, it may be an ideal body contouring solution for individuals who are apprehensive about needles or surgical procedures—the procedure is so simple, no anesthesia is required. And if the downtown necessitated by liposuction makes the procedure prohibitive, ZELTIQ™ provides a way to simply and gradually reduce fat and reshape your body.
"Dr. Mountcastle and his staff are great. Scheduling was very easy and all of my questions and concerns were very thoroughly answered. I was given several options for each concern and no pressure to schedule any procedure. I was encouraged to consider the option that works best for me and the price was much better than I expected. I had scar revision surgery on my stomach and I am very happy with the results and the recovery was exactly as described. Amy in the Medical Spa is also amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. I will be going back to see her for additional spa services!"- C.M. / Yelp / Mar 28, 2018

The CoolSculpting® technique is so gentle that no anesthesia is required. When you receive treatment with Coolsculpting™ at Dr. Mountcastle’s Ashburn, Leesburg, or Reston practice, you will be free to comfortably read, relax, listen to music or watch TV for the duration of the procedure. Depending on the area being treated, the entire procedure may last between one and three hours.
During a CoolSculpting procedure, the Chief Asthetic Nurse, Physician Assistant or Head Asthetician will place the cooling device on the area of the body where the fat is to be treated after a careful plan has been devised by Dr Mountcastle.. The device pulls the fat pocket up between the cooling panels, where the freezing process will ensue. Patients will feel some pressure, but no pain. Most CoolSculpting treatments will only last about an hour. Following the procedure, patients will have some redness and tingling sensation on the areas treated, but this typically subsides quickly. Typically patients only feel a little discomfort in the first few minutes of the procedure while the suction device is being attached and at the end when the device is being removed.
All CoolSculpting procedures are performed in an accredited surgical facility (AAAASF certified). No anesthesia or numbing medication is necessary, due to the procedure’s pain-free process, and patients are immediately released to normal activity following treatment. Patients will begin to see results within several weeks. On average, it takes about two full months* for the most dramatic results to take shape due to frozen fat cells naturally dissolving from the body over time. Patients should adhere to a healthy diet and eating plan to help maintain results.
Several days after your procedure, the treated fat cells will begin a cycle known as apoptosis, shrinking and eventually being absorbed and eliminated by the body. The results of your Coolsculpting™ procedure will be visible approximately two to four months after treatment and may continue to improve for up to six months. The average patient experiences a 15 - 25 percent* reduction of fat in the treated area. And while Coolsculpting™ is non-invasive, the incredible results achieved with the CoolSculpting® technique are predicted to last as long as those delivered by liposuction.

Does It Truly Work?
Yes. This is a fat dissolving process that has been proven to eliminate fat from the body. Studies show that on average, patients experience a 20%* reduction in fat after two months* and a 25%* reduction in fat after 6 months*.
Is CoolSculpting Safe?
Yes. This procedure was developed by Harvard scientists and approved by the FDA in 2010. At that time, the safety and efficacy of CoolSculpting were proven. It is a noninvasive, non-surgical procedure that does not require in any downtime.
Will the Fat Come Back?
Once the fat is frozen, dissolved and eliminated, these particular fat cells will be gone forever. However, new fat cells can form, so it is important to adhere to a healthy diet and fitness program to maximize the results long-term.
How Many Treatments?
This will be decided during your consultation. For some individuals, one full treatment is enough to obtain the desired results, although most patients may need more than one, depending on how much fat will be desired to be removed.
