THE RISKS OF BREAST AUGMENTATION WITH IMPLANTS
At Mountcastle Plastic Surgery, we offer two types of breast augmentation: implants and fat transfer. As with any surgical procedure, each type carries its own set of potential side effects. Implants can be filled with saline or silicone, and the risks of this type of augmentation include:
- Scarring
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Rupture of the implant
- Wrinkling of the skin over the implant
- Capsular contracture, in which the scar tissue surrounding the implant begins to tighten, distorting the shape of the breast
- Breast pain
- Changes in breast sensation
Breast implants very rarely have adverse effects on a patient’s overall or long-term health. The best way to minimize the risks of breast augmentation is to choose a certified, experienced, and reputable surgeon. Dr. Mountcastle has proven expertise in breast augmentation surgery and has helped many women achieve the maximum benefits of this popular procedure. Please contact us today to learn more about how Dr. Mountcastle can help you achieve your goals.
BREAST AUGMENTATION WITH FAT TRANSFER
Breast augmentation using fat transfer is sometimes referred to as “natural breast implants” because it uses the body’s own fat to enhance a patient’s breasts. As a result, there is no risk of rupture or capsular contracture. The procedure does, of course, carry its own risks, though they are minimal. These risks include:
- Over-absorption of fat cells (reducing the effect of your augmentation)
- Inconsistent outer texture of the breast
- Asymmetry
- Inflammation
- Fatty cysts or fat necrosis
- Calcium deposits
